The local area is one of the most diversified fishing locations in America! In addition to Lake Okeechobee, there are hundreds of additional lakes, rivers, ponds and secret fishing spots. Guided tours are available or just explore on your own. I can point out to you some of my favorite secret spots where you can catch anything you want. Just don't let the gators catch you!

Lake Okeechobee's massive size of over 730 square miles of surface water and average depth of 14 ft. deep make it a paradise and is one of the prettiest places in Florida to visit. The lake is full of native grasses and has miles of back-water marsh areas that provide a wonderful place for wildlife to live and flourish.
The largemouth bass and large pan fish population is what Lake Okeechobee is famous for, but being the headwaters of the Florida Everglades it is full of many other species of animals. The American Alligator, Pelicans, Manatees, Otters, Turtles, Hogs, Turkeys, Deer and many types of wading birds cover the shores of Lake Okeechobee year around. These bass infested waters rank high on most fishermen’s list of dream places to fish.
There are only a few ports and launch ramps on Lake Okeechobee. The most popular port and launch area is in the town of Clewiston on the south west shore of the Lake Okeechobee. Clewiston provides the safest access to the lake with many places to fish. Roland Martin Marina in Clewiston Florida is Lake Okeechobee's largest marina facility with all the amenities.
Lake Okeechobee is a wonderful year around fishery, and the months of October through the end of July are the most popular times to fish on Lake Okeechobee. The average water temps on the lake are around 70-75 degrees during the spring months and the summer month the water temps will reach 85-90 degrees. The bass will spawn from November thru the end of May which make Lake Okeechobee the longest spawning period in the country and in-turn makes it one of the best fishing places in the world!
